The FORwiki Collaborative Platform Is Now Officially Available To the International Foresight Community

The Executive Agency for Higher Education and Research Funding (UEFISCSU), as part of the “Quality and Leadership for Romanian Higher Education” project, officially launched the FORwiki collaborative platform (www.forwiki.ro).

FORwiki is the first web 2.0-based platform specially designed for the international community of foresight experts and functioning as a communication and exchange medium, in a wiki format.

The platform has two main components. The first component is designed for debate and analysis of foresight concepts that apply to higher education. The second component, and the largest one, is designed as a database of practices and outcomes and descriptions of specific methods (e.g. the success scenario method) and ways to apply these methods.

FORwiki allows foresight experts all over the world to create their own accounts, contribute articles and content to the development of this platform and, at the same time, access the knowledge database which is result of the contributions of all the members.

The FORwiki was launched during a workshop that took place between April 15 and 16, at the UEFISCSU offices, in Bucharest. The event, meaningfully named “Jointly Shaping and Launching the Foresight Wiki”, was coordinated by Dr. Philine Warnke and brought together 23 world-known foresight experts. The outcomes of the foresight exercises conducted over these two days, as well as details about the way they were developed, the challenges and the lessons learnt are to be found on the platform website.

Support Information

The “Quality and Leadership for Romanian Higher Education” project is one of the 5 strategic projects for higher education conducted by CNCSIS (the National Council for University Research) and CNFIS (the National Council for Higher Education Funding) along with UEFISCSU (the Executive Agency for Higher Education and Research Funding) and funded by the European Social Fund, the Sectoral Operational Programme for Human Resources Development.

One of the purposes of the project is to develop the higher education players’ capacity for long-term strategic analysis.

To improve the leadership capacity, the project envisages the strengthening of the Romanian foresight practitioner community and its integration into the international community. For this purpose, a series of 10 workshops aimed at developing basic foresight concepts through international expert dialogue are organized in Bucharest.
